Title: Through His Eyes
Author:
nodoka06
Pairing: Yamada Ryosuke/Chinen Yuri
Rating: PG
Genre: Family, angst Slice of Life
Summary: Everytime he looks on his eyes, he remembers him.
AN: Flashbacks are written in italic.
“Papa, are we going to visit Mama today?” ,my 10 years old son asked me innocently while rubbing his cute round eyes after he let a yawn when I checked him on his bedroom and waked him up and he realized what day it was.
“Un.” I nodded, “we’re going to visit Mama today.”, I said while ruffling his silky hair. “Take a bath now while I prepare the breakfast downstairs, okay?”. I told my son while he jumped off on his bed, pulled his towel inside his cabinet and dashed inside the small bathroom on his room. I was about to leave to prepare our food until he called me and smiled before he completely closed the door of his bathroom and I soon heard the sound of the shower.
The happiness I felt when I saw my son smiled was really incredible, because with his smile, I remembered someone who is very important to me – the person who my son is calling his mom.
To tell you the truth, Yukito, my son - our son- is not our real son. He is adopted.
----
I was so thankful for God for making the weather so fine at that day when Yuri and I were having our precious date. It was mid-afternoon and we were strolling around the Shibuya area. We just finished eating some sweets as Yuri was craving for some vanilla ice cream and cookies while I had strawberry ice cream for myself.
Yuri, he’s the person whom I love so much. He is the person who makes me complete everyday. He is my life. My love. My everything. My Chinen Yuuri.
“Ryosuke.” Yuri softly tugged the sleeves of my shirt with his free hand while his other hand was still holding the ice cream I bought for him earlier. He really eats that slowly. I stopped on my tracks and looked at him and I couldn’t help but to chuckle only to see my boyfriend pouting adorably towards the stuff toys store that was only located on his side. “Yuwi ni katte kuwewu.” he said, as he point to a certain stuffed pig he saw from outside. “Onegai?” he pleased attacking me with his puppy eyes.
Of course, I couldn’t say no to him. It was just a stuff toy anyways. We went inside the store and took the big stuffed pig he was asking. He really couldn’t get any cuter when he was jumping up and down when we’re lining up to pay. Seriously, I didn’t want to believe that he was already 19 at that time. He acted more childish than my 4 years old niece.
“Here.” I gave him the paper bag where the fluffy toy was and he excitedly pulled the stuff pig out of the bag and hugged it very tight.
And maybe because I love Yuri that much, I couldn’t help but to get jealous. “O-oi. Stop hugging the pig that much.” I abruptly said as he tilted his head to look at me innocently while I felt that my face was getting hot.
“Ryosuke.” he called my name again, and I felt great. Every time he calls my name and I hear his sweet voice, it feels like it’s sending me to heaven; into the heaven wherein he is my guardian angel. He took some steps forward near me and smiled naturally, “arigatou na.” he mouthed as he tiptoed and kissed my nose that just made me to turn redder. “Ryosuke kawaii~” he teased and poked my redden cheeks.
“Y-Yamero.” I quickly grabbed his hand which was poking my cheek, though I really wanted him to do that but I was not sure how long could I restrain myself not to kiss him, since we were on such a crowded place, and once I kiss him, no one knows when will I stop.
I firmly held his hand and swayed it while we were walking like we’re holding each other’s hand for the first time.
We kept on walking and talking and laughing until Yuri saw a little kid curving his self like a ball and sobbing on a nearby bench. Yuri, being the kind and soft-hearted person that he is, approached the little kid and of course I followed him.
“Ne, Daijoubu?”, I know it was not the right thing to ask but my boyfriend did. “Why are you crying little boy?”, Yuri asked with his concerned voice.
The little boy slowly raised his head but his sobs continued, “Mama?” he mumbled with his cracked voiced and then he rubbed his eyes that were full of tears. “Mama!”, he cried and stood to run and Yuri and I were both shock when that kid hugged Yuri. “Mama, mama, mama…” he kept on calling Yuri mama.
And then after that incident, we found out the kid’s name and his name is Yukito. We asked him where his house was because we thought that maybe her mother lost him but when we reached the place he told us, we felt sorry for Yukito when we didn’t see any house on that place but only to see some ashes and then we discovered from his neighbor that Yukito and his family were victims of the fire incident that happened two weeks ago and unfortunately, Yukito’s parents died in the accident and also according to them, Yukito doesn’t have any other siblings that’s why he was just wandering around.
At the same time, we also had found out why Yukito keeps on calling Yuri his mama, and that’s because his mom looks very similar to Yuri. From his eyes, nose, lips, to sum it up, Yuri, my boyfriend, resembles to Yukito’s mom a lot.
That’s why, at that time, we decided to take care of Yukito and took him on our little home.
---
“Papa, are those cookies?” Yukito asked while he was running down the stairs smelling the aroma that came from the kitchen.
“Yes, my dear.” I said. “We’re going to bring some for your mom. I am so sure, Yuri will love these.”
“That’s for sure, Papa.” Yukito assured and showed me a two thumbs up. We started eating our breakfast and I remember suddenly the first time the three of us ate together on a table.
--
“Yukki-chan wa nansai?” Yuri asked while he was holding a container of cookies that was on top of the table.
“Rokusai desu.” Yukito answered while showing Yuri his 6 little fingers.
Yuri opened the container and put six pieces of cookies in Yukito’s plate. “Here’s your reward, Yukki-chan.”
“Eh?” I uttered when I recognized that Yuri based the number of cookies on Yukito’s age.
“What are you Eh-ing about, Ryosuke?”
“N-nothing.”
“Mama, arigatou.” Yukito thanked as he hopped down on his seat and went to Yuri instead and sat on his lap. I smiled on that scene that Yuri already had someone sitting on his lap while it’s been me, whose lap is only being sat by him. Seeing Yuri with a kid on his lap makes me feel blissful, thinking that Yuri and I were the real parents of Yukito. Yuri being his mother, and me, being his father and by that, I could say that we are now complete.
And we really are.
“Anata wa…” Yukito said pointing his little finger to Yuri as he continued, “Yukki no mama de…”, and soon stirred to look at me, “anata wa… Yukki no… Papa desu.”, and showed us his brightest smile. And it makes me happier when I saw the two of them smile, those smiles that are similar. It seemed like I had two Chinen Yuri for myself and I thought that I want to protect them forever.
Or so I thought.
When Yuri and I had enough money we legally adopted Yukito as our son. Our lives became more ecstatic when we added Yukito on our lives.
We’re complete.
Two years passed. Yukito was 8 years old and we were both 21. It was in the morning when we planned to go to the supermarket to buy groceries but Yukito said he wanted to stay home since he could take care of the house despite of his young age and that he wanted us to share moments together alone so he let him be and since because we’re also living on a subdivision so we’re somewhat sure about the safeties of our place.
Yes, we might be safe from robbers or other burglar but…
… we’re not safe from an unexpected catastrophe.
We dashed home when one of our neighbors called me on the phone and told me what was happening on the subdivision.
There was a fire.
And the fire started from our neighbor and they said that the fire was caused by a short circuit and quickly spread that our house started to burn too. Yuri panicked because we left Yukito alone and we hurriedly called a taxi to get home.
Upon arriving on the subdivision, there were lots of people including the firemen trying to stop the fire. We passed through the crowded area and looked for our son but when we failed to see him, Yuri ran inside our house without even thinking. I tried to stop him; I tried to follow him but some of the firemen were blocking me. A minute had passed; nobody was coming out of the house.
Three minutes …
Five minutes …
A figure was coming out of the raging fire and I saw two firemen carrying Yukito who was crying and one carrying Yuri who was unconscious and had some burns on his skin. I didn’t waste any second to run at them and checked if they’re okay. I hugged Yukito and I was surprised to see him holding the stuff pig that I gave to Yuri the day we saw Yukito while Yuri was placed inside the ambulance and soon we got on the hospital.
“Yukki, tell Papa what happened.” I asked Yukito while we were still inside the ambulance car. I was shaking while I was holding both of Yuri’s hands while Yukito was still crying.
“Mama ga… Mama … Yukki… tasuketa.” he said between his sobs.
Then Yuki told me everything. He said that he was trapped on his room and couldn’t get out, but when he heard Yuri calling for his name, he shout back to be found. Yuri found him and they were already in the stairs but Yukito remembered the stuff toy I gave to Yuri which really was important for his mom and it is also important for Yukito as for the both of them that pig stuff animal is also a member of our family – as our other child, and Yukito’s brother. That’s why when Yukito remembered the pig stuff animal, he came back running upstairs and took the stuff animal inside our room. But the ceiling of our room fell and it trapped them. Yuri was hugging Yukito to protect him from the heat and smoke but it was Yuri who got suffocated from too much smoke and had some burns on his skin.
When the firemen found them, this was where Yuri lost his consciousness.
“Yuri!! Hang in there!!” I shouted as the nurses send Yuri on the emergency room. He was having a hard time in breathing when we’re on the ambulance and I was really getting insane. I was crying as I didn’t know what to do to help him. I was scared. Scared that I might lose him.
And I did.
I lost Yuri. He died on the incident.
And because of what happened to him, I blame Yukito for his death. I know I shouldn’t but I couldn’t accept the fact that my beloved one was gone. He was suddenly gone. And worst was, I did nothing to help him. If only the firemen didn’t stop me on following him while our house was on fire, I might have saved them, I might have saved him.
It was really hard for me to move on, since a year and a half had passed since he passed out but I still don’t want to believe that Yuri left me. And because I was blaming Yukito for what happened, I started to act cold on him. I was not talking to him, not looking after him like I was the only person living in our new house.
I know I shouldn’t reproach Yukito, since it must be hard for him too… because; he lost someone especial to him, not just once but twice. He lost two mothers whom he loved so much.
One day, Yuri appeared on my dream saying that I should stop on treating Yukito that way. He was sad seeing us like that. He was crying. He was crying because of me. I tried to reach him on my dream but it was seem impossible because whenever I tried to, he’s getting farther and farther.
“Yuriiiiiiiii!” I screamed desperately, and then I slowly opened my eyes and was shocked to see Yuri again, breathing. “Yuri.”, though my vision was not that clear at that time because of the tears that formed around my eyes. And Yuri was still crying too, I thought I was still dreaming, but I was not.
But…
“Papa, papa, okite~” Yukito was shaking me to wake up. He might have heard me screaming and thought that I was having a nightmare. “Okiru Papa!”. Yukito was crying too. And when I looked at those eyes, those big brown eyes of him, I was amazed to see how beautiful they were, and it was like, I saw Yuri on him.
I saw Chinen Yuri , my love on Yukito’s eyes. The same Chinen Yuri I’d seen on my dream, telling me, convincing me to turn back into the Yamada Ryosuke that he knew, the Yamada Ryosuke that he loves and the Yamada Ryosuke who loves Chinen Yuri and Yamada Yukito so much.
My tears fell much harder when I realized my wrong and hugged our son, Yukito, as I said, “I’m sorry, son.”
I felt it when he shook his head saying that it’s alright. “I’m sorry too, Papa.” he said as I savored the moment and closed my eyes, and when I shuttered my eyes closed I saw Yuri again and I became happy, because at that time, Yuri already was smiling like before, and I heard him also say, “Thanks Ryosuke, hontou arigatou na. Aishiteru. Itsumademo.”
------
“We’re here Mama.” Yukito cheerfully said as we arrived at the cemetery and visit Yuri on the mausoleum. We bought him his favorite cookies because I know he surely does miss eating one because ever since he left, I stopped on baking cookies. I also put some Lilies on his grave and lighted up candles to pray. Yukito also brought the pig stuff animal with him and telling his mom that everything has come back to normal.
“I missed you Yuri. I’ve missed you so much. I know you’re now happy wherever you are, now that I’ve opened my heart again to our son. I’m sorry for what I did. I just don’t know what to do without you Yuri. But I promise to you that I will never hurt Yukito again. I will protect him and love him like what I do to you. Because Yuri, I know, you are still with us na? We may not see you around with our bare eyes, but you are forever here in our hearts na Yuri? ”
“Yuri… aishiteru yo. Itsumademo.”
